Fifth grade - introduction for parents
Welcome to religious education!
To conduct faith formation at home, follow the chapter readings in your children's Faith and Life textbooks. For fifth graders, this book is called, Credo: I believe. These readings will facilitate conversation with your children to explain the Catholic Faith. These readings and the accompanying activities in the activity books are intellectual reinforcement of your children's practice of the Faith in prayer and the Mass.
Remember Saint Augustine's words to "believe so that you may understand." By them, Augustine highlights the importance of practicing our Faith prior to discovering it intellectually. Faith in our minds is knowledge, but only when Faith has entered our hearts does it become expressed as love of God.
Let this year be an opportunity to place special attention on your children's faith formation accompanying them in prayer and participation in the Mass so that the conversations facilitated in these at-home activities may be rooted in the relationship that your child is forming with God.
As a guide to help you map out the year ahead, the attached calendar provides an outline for weekly formation.
Always fee free to ask me questions or let me know if there is anything I can do to support you.
I would encourage you to support one another leading your children in the Faith too. If you'd like to get in touch with other parents to meet up for support, let me know, and I'll be happy to help you!
Christ's peace and joy to your families!
