confirmation preparation - lesson 14

"Why have I been chosen?"

Welcome back! Today we're going to discover the big sacrament we're preparing for: Confirmation! The prayer we are going to open with today is one that Fr. Tom will recite when you are confirmed in the Catholic Faith. As you pray it, pick out one line that "jumps out" at you to reflect on a bit more.

+ In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit...

All Powerful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, by water and the Holy Spirit you freed your sons and daughters from sin and gave them new life. Send your Holy Spirit upon them to be their helper and guide. Give them the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of right judgement and courage, the spirit of knowledge and reverence. Fill then with the spirit of wonder and awe in your presence. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Dive in! On page 126, read, Arise! as an introduction to today's video lessons.

Watch it! Watch the lesson 14 videos and answer the corresponding questions on page 127.

Segment 1 video tells us that Confirmation "gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the Faith by word and action" (CCC 1303) and has traditionally been associated with becoming a soldier for Christ. What does it mean to be a soldier for Christ?

Where do you see a spiritual battle going on in the world and what is your role in it?

Upon watching the Segment 2 video, what does the sacrament of Confirmation do for you?

Confirmation is the "sacrament of Christian maturity." What does it mean to be spiritually mature?

Upon watching the third video, what are the symbols used in the Sacrament of Confirmation, and what do they mean?

Why do you want to be confirmed? Why do you think you are ready?

In conclusion, read To the Heart with Chris Steffanick on page 128.

Continue to discover the saints. This week, on page 130, we get to know St. Paul a little more in depth. This saint underwent a heroic conversion and is a great model of discipleship.

Lastly, choose a challenge for the week and enjoy flexing your spiritual muscle!

See you next week!
